No lunar eclipse here in Flagstaff, AZ!

Happy Valentine's day!

And today we have (drum roll please!)...a door.

Thanks so much everyone for all the kind words about my dad. He is really doing very well and I’m so proud of him. I’m also really touched by all well-wishes. Even though I’ve never formally met any Smugmugers (at least not knowingly), this place feels more like a community than many places I’ve been, and I am very thankful to be a part of it. Thank you.

I threw in a couple more pictures from yesterday with my dad in them (and the little stone towers- they were unavoidable, really, I had to work *not* to take pictures of them :)).

Didn't get out to take pictures today. So this was my end of the day attempt at *something*. I liked the little tilt in this one and chose it over a similar picture that was horizontally accurate. Although now that I look at it on SM it bothers me...a lot.

Bubbles in a glass... didn’t get out much today :-/ I leave for Kansas early on the 28th, then to Baltimore for a day, then Heathrow/London for 12 or so hours... then back to Cape Town! I’ll try and remember to post-date some pics, because I don’t know if I’ll be able to post much until I get back to Africa :) (and then of course there is the fact that I was posting at work (sshhh! Don’t tell!), and my whole work group MOVED to a new location across town while I was gone! Arg! But I’ll figure it out. ‘Till then, Bubbles! )

Went out to the great town of Bumble Bee, Arizona. Which is right next to that tall cactus on that one hill by the riverbed. And make sure not to blink, you might miss it! It's a great little place, on a dirt road in the middle of the desert. If you're coming from Flagstaff and were originally planning to go to Crown King (an equally enigmatic little place 23 mi into the mountains), then it's a bit out-of-the-way. Just make sure you don't go on a Sunday. Nothing happens in Bumble Bee on a Sunday :)

Sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry!!! It has been nuts! I few back from South Africa two weeks ago and then spend a week jumping from one state to another visiting grad schools. Then it was time to come home and help out around the house. My father had a heart attack and quintuple bypass a few weeks back, so my main reason for coming home was to take over all the domestic chores while my mom takes care of my dad. I have a new-found respect for people that cook and clean for their families- IT IS HARD WORK!

Today my father and I went down to Sedona for a little fresh air (nothing intense, just some walking). A couple years ago these little stone piles started to appear. Now they are EVERYWHERE. So I’ve included some cute pics of the stone city members as well as some of the red rocks as a kind of make-up (forgive me!). And MOMS4 SQUIRRELS- I tried to get a birds-eye close up before I left SA but wouldn’t ya know none of the birds would let me get close enough! So I’m still working on that homework assignment :)

Or at least that’s what I was yelling when I saw my dad trying to add one last tiny rock to the top of this impressive tower we came upon (I guess it had fallen off the top...). Fortunately the tower was sturdy and now one rock taller :)
(my dad built our house, barn, greenhouse, rock wall, horse pen, patio... he likes building. There were several new rock people by the time we left that day :))

I woke up extra early this morning to try and catch a pic of the sunrise. It was COLD!!!
This pic was cropped, sharpened a bit and the colors were saturated a touch to try and give it a "surreal" look.
Thoughts?
